
Chelsea assistant boss Steve Clarke confirmed: 'He's got a small problem with his knee. He stayed behind for treatment. It's not major - we've decided to rest him for a week to 10 days, and he'll be fine after that. He's still a Chelsea player.'
Chelsea have shrugged off all previous attempts by Real Madrid to land the Holland international.
This comes just days after BBC reported that Chelsea winger Arjen Robben had agreed personal terms over a move to Real Madrid.
Robben has two years left on his Chelsea contract and is going to face stiff competition for a place in the side after Chelsea signed Lyon’s winger Florent Malouda.
