“We’re still ironing out bugs and making the site as user friendly as possible. So we’ll be making changes every week. I aspire to make it like a ‘google’ for the industry,” says Chandra Mundhra, Jagmohan Mundhra’s wife, who developed the concept for the site for S Kumars Online Limited.
Bcol.in aims to help directors cast actors, and give struggling artistes a one-stop-shop where they can deliver their portfolios.
Incidentally, that’s how the idea struck Chandra. “I had borrowed Jagmohan’s phone for a week. In those seven days, I was inundated with hundreds of calls from struggling actors who were ready to risk everything to just get someone to see their work,” she says. It was then she figured that the industry could use a respectable system to control this chaos. “There is no method. People line up outside casting offices and spend hours hoping to get lucky. Imagine what must happen at Yash Raj and Dharma Productions? I hope this site helps all those people.”
For now, Jagmohan’s next film, Kissa Kutte Ka, is casting 40 fresh faces on the site. And the producer-director has already received 1,000 applications. “I have not shown the pictures to Jagmohan yet since the verification process is on,” she says, adding that Kissa Kutte Ka will star Seema Biswas, Raghuvir Yadav and Tanishtha Chatterji. Apart from Bollywood, bcol.in will also catalogue information for the advertising and television industry.
