The US State Department has issued a worldwide travel alert to all Americans living and traveling abroad to remain alert and vigilant because Al-Qaeda and its affiliates had "demonstrated the intent and capability to carry out attacks" against the US and its interests “to coincide with significant dates on the calendar," abs-cbn said.
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said "no specific or credible intelligence that Al-Qaeda or its affiliates are plotting attacks" linked to the 9/11 anniversary but "we remain at a heightened state of vigilance, and security measures are in place to detect and prevent plots against the United States should they emerge."
Napolitano said in a statement, "the safety and security of the American public remains our highest priority" as the nation prepared to mark 9/11 anniversary.
US President Barack Obama would visit three sites in commemoration of the 9/11 anniversary. First, in Manhattan ‘ground zero,’ next, the Pentagon outside Washington, and in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, where a hijacked United Airlines jet crashed after passengers and crew fought back.
