Processor Wars: AMD vs. Intel Which is better ?
Which processor is best for home use. What it means: Dual-Core, Dual-Core. What are the E7 Intel Xeon, Intel Core i7 i5, Athlon 64, Turion 64 or AMD Athlon II. What is the difference between Intel Pentium Dual Core and Intel Core 2 Duo. All these questions are hovering around the world of processors (at least doubt that the average user has on them).
And the race for more advanced chips, but has spent years in the computer industry, promises to get hotter now than ever. Is that Intel and AMD have launched a relentless war to stay as absolute kings of the territory and insert your brand in your own home.
The dynamics of these advances in computer technology dictates that, whenever things seem to calm down and we'll processor time, emerging news and rumors about the new super-processor that is threatening to turn the corner.
This mechanism, removing the new generation after generation, is logical, as advances occur in the business at an alarming rate, but this does not help much in countries like ours, where access to technology is very expensive and not just bought our new computer and feel that is old and way to becoming obsolete. Therefore, it is always good to stay informed and wait a bit to make the best purchase possible.
The good news
These days it leaked news about new projects of the two chip giants Intel and AMD, which cast new light on the immediate future of the industry and put on shows that now the war seems to be the faster clock (as it was until recently), but what matters now is who has the highest number of cores on their devices.
Intel, the undisputed leader in the segment, announced that its new generation of chips, which will be the evolution of the platform Sandy Bridge, will be released sometime in October, just a month after the launch of the Bulldozer chips, the new generation AMD competition.
The new Intel platform, call (as usual) Extreme Edition, will operate under a new socket, LGA 2011, and will support four channels, so you have four memory modules, such as high-end will not have integrated video, which is great for users who need lots of performance.
The workhorse of this new generation will be the new Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition-3960X, a small wonder that will have six cores, twelve threads, a processing speed of 3.3 Ghz native, 3.9 GHz Turbo mode, 15 MB L3 cache, and a 130W thermal threshold.
A real monster this is followed by the Core i7-3930K, also six and twelve cores threads, which has 12 MB of L3 cache and a 3.2 and 3.8 Ghz speed in both modes.
The younger brother of the family is the Core i7-3820. A quad-core processor, eight processing threads and a 10MB L3 cache, a little more humble than their older siblings. But do not dismiss it because their clock speeds will be higher than those offered by the other two models: 3.6 GHz in native mode, and 3.9 GHz Turbo mode.
As for prices, although no official numbers, it is expected that the model-3960X i7 Extreme Edition is around $ 999 and i7-3930K the $ 560. I7-3820 model does not have an estimate yet.
Meanwhile, AMD will launch its new family Bulldozer on 19 September, the fastest models integrate the Black Edition and will have eight cores and Core Turbo function for users who need to squeeze a little more clock speed of processor.
Following the release of top line models, will debut the most modest and cheap copies of the series, although there are not many qualifications.
However, not content with this release, and perhaps threatened by the new generation of Intel chips, leaked details of AMD's plans for 2012 so we still did not work out new processors and we are talking about to come after them.
The Chinese portal zol.com.cn published pictures of what, clearly, is the new AMD processor family, called Piledriver, which would be the evolution of Bulldozer, and present two new processors, called Komodo and Corona. Apparently, these new chips will work in a sock FM2 and have a maximum of ten cores, something truly surprising.
While no further details on price or performance, news of a reaction from AMD to Intel's domination almost undisputed is good for the category and consumers in general. At the moment we can only hope.
