48 People Shot, 10 Deaths As NYC Turned Into Labor Day Weekend

It was like a scene out of the Wild, Wild West this Labor Day weekend in New York City. 48 people were reportedly shot resulting in 10 fatalities.

The violence started Friday evening and ended Monday night in a shootout that left 2 people dead and 2 police officers wounded in Brooklyn.

32-year-old Leroy Webster shot and killed 29-year-old Eusi Johnson after a fist fight escalated on Franklyn Ave and Park Place around 9 p.m.

A 56-year-old neighbor, Denise Gay, was also killed when stray bullets hit her in the head as she sat on a nearby stoop.

Two of the Police officers responding to the incident were hit by bullets in the arm and chest when a shootout occurred between law enforcement and said gunman.

Both officers, Omar Medina and Avichaim Dickens were taken to area hospitals but their injuries aren't life-threatening.

The Caribbean Parade, which is the highlight for many residents of Caribbean and non-Caribbean roots alike in NYC, was also marred by the weekend violence. There were reportedly 4 people injured by gunfire during the parade. A 15-year-old boy was also hurt.

Throughout the weekend, there were reports on television, Facebook, Twitter and in the streets, of the "24 shooting in 24 hours." And that was early in the weekend. Mayor Mike Bloomberg weighed in on the shocking violence, saying "it's got stop..there are too many guns on the street and something has to be done about it."

The violence started on Saturday morning when a 35-year-old woman was shot in the Saratoga area of Brooklyn. The bloody weekend continued with 48 more shootings, from the Bronx spanning all the way to Far Rockaway and Beach Channel in Queens.

Sunday morning, a teenager in the Bronx, 17 year old Dasilva O'neil, opened fire in a party, shooting 8 people.

Another unbelievable 5 shootings took place in separate incidents within an 18 minute period on Sunday evening in the Channel Beach section of Queens.

An 11 year old boy, Shaquan Walters, was the youngest shooting victim, when he was injured during a backyard BBQ in the Bronx.

Among the dead is a 24-year-old man who was shot in the head in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn approximately 10:00 p.m. Sunday.

When the dust settled and despite having over 600 police officers present on the streets for the busy weekend, a total of 10 people were reportedly killed in the violent mayhem.

Many are calling this the worst violence they've seen in NYC in decades.
