Rs 15 lakh penalty has been slapped on Rahat and his nephew/manager Maroof by DRI officials for breaking foreign exchange rules.
Renowned Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan was detained at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport for carrying undeclared currency worth US $ 1.24 lakh illegally.
He was held at the airport when he was planning to take a flight to Dubai for his forward journey to Karachi. He has finally been released under immense pressure from Pakistan.
His passport too was confiscated. ADG of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) R K Sharma stated “Rahat and his associate has given an undertaking that they will appear here whenever required.”
“Passports will be given to the accused only after payment of penalty.”
