5th June is being observed as the “World Elder Abuse Awareness Day” (WEAAD) throught the world.

15th June is being observed as the “World Elder Abuse Awareness Day” (WEAAD) throught the world. On this occasion, HelpAge India Odisha State Branch is going to organize an awareness meeting & interactive discussions between senior citizens, police, lawyers & Media representatives in RED CROSS BHAWAN, BHUBANESWAR on 14th June’11 at 5.30 Pm. The members from Senior Citizen Associations, media personnel, NGOs & principals/teachers from Schools are invited to present in this meeting. A report on "Crime & Abuse against the Elderly in India" will be released on the eve of WEAAD.

The event aimed at creating awareness and to urge Police and community at large to take action to make the city & state safer for senior citizens and to encourage senior citizens to empower themselves against their vulnerability.

Shri B.K. Sharma, IPS, Additional Director General & Inspector General of Police cum Commissioner of Police, Police Commissionate, Bhubaneswar – Cuttack will grace the occasion as Chief Guest.

Shri B.B. Mishra, IPS, Director General Police (Retd), Odisha will grace the occasion as Chief Speaker.

Sri Laxmidhar Mohapatra, Advocate - High Court and Nirupama Mohanty, Advocate, Bhubaneswar Bar Association will grace the occasion as Guest of Honor.
