Indian Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev has atleast scored a moral victory over the rulers. The Indian PM had to give a statement wherein he regretted the police crackdown on Guru Baba. But his statement fell short of accepting the mistake when he termed the police action as 'unfortunate' but at the same time defended his own government by saying that there was no other 'alternative' to deal with the situation.
On this weekend the police and angry supporters of Guru clashed in New Delhi when the police tried to break the Guru's fast (hunger strike). At least 30 people were injured and the condition of one of the injured women is said to be critical.
The action was highly critisised by the opposition parties as well as from the members of civil society. The government was put under severe pressure to release the detained Guru. Finally the government buckled under the pressure and released Guru Baba on Sunday.
Even the Supreme court of India has sought explanation from the Government on the police action against Guru Baba Ramdev.
Guru Baba has again started his fast. Baba Ramdev has vowed to continue his hunger strike against corruption in his home city of Haridwar. He wants the recovery of suspected bribe money allegedly held overseas.
