Encouraged by the Supreme Court's suo motto notice against the government on Ramdev's forcible eviction from Ramlila ground, a section of the civil society has now approached the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and the National Commission for Women (NCW) to complain against the police highhandedness.
On behalf of the Noida residents we are filing an application with the NHRC and NCW to take a legal action against those who were involved in committing atrocity at Ramlila ground in Delhi on Saturday night, said Ashok Srivastav, Noida based social activist.
After the incident on Sunday, Noida residents formed a committee called Noida Jagruk Samaj to support Ramdev's fight against corruption. A delegation of Noida Jagruk Samaj will visit NHRC and NCW to file a complaint against the atrocities committed by the Delhi police at Ramlila ground.
The NCW acting chairperson Yasmin Abrar told TOI that the commission was "probing the case from all angles." A delegation of women led by the BJP leader Smiriti Irani will meet her at 1 pm.
What happened to women at Ramlila ground on Saturday night was extremely shameful. Even women and children were not spared. About 5000 Delhi Police and Rapid Action Force (RAF) swooped down on Baba Ramdev and his supporters as if they were terrorists in hiding or most wanted criminals. There was no reason to target one lakh innocent people on fast while they were peacefully sleeping. Atrocities on women and children were shocking. This kind of behavior with citizen of India especially with women can not be tolerated, said a social activist Usha Thakur, who is leading the delegation to file a complaint against the police atrocity.
The Noida residents on Monday morning visited Saheed Smarak Park in sector 29 and paid tribute to the martyrs of India's freedom struggle. Our martyrs lost their lives to make India a strong democratic country but Saturday night was a shameful day in the history of India when a silent campaign against corruption was suppressed by the government. We were proud to be citizens of the strongest democratic country of the world but after this incident we are feeling ashamed, said Ashok Srivastav of Jagruk Samaj Noida.
Besides a massive rally to be organised on June 8, a signature campaign for the fight against corruption is being held across the city.
The Police cracked down on Baba Ramdev and thousands of his supporters including children and women at Ramlila Maidan, forcibly ending their hunger strike against corruption and black money after the talks between Baba Ramdev and the Central government failed.
